I am looking to make my next rosette out of curved abalone. I wanted to see if you guys can recommend a good supplier that you've had good luck with. Please PM me if necessary. Not sure of the rules about asking sales type questions like that and certainly don't want to get flamed.
Thanks

-j.

I second Andy DePaul. His stuff is incredible, and his prices are extremely reasonable. He's a great guy to deal with as well.

I know that this is a round about way of supporting the ways of the OLF and the sentiment is appreciated, but I think that we should refrain from speaking ill of the MIMF and Deb.

We all know the rules in her world -- love 'em or hate 'em it is her sandbox.

I'm sorry Brock. I said I wouldn't mention names and I didn't... I'm not quite sure what you're talking about though... What is this 'MIMF' and who's Deb? She musn't be very nice if you associated her to my scathing comments

   There, 'nuff said.

I'd like to say a quick word to reinforce what Brock said. We've been round and round that merry-go-round, and let's not go there again. Regardless of what you think about those who run other forums, they deserve some basic respect for what they are trying to do for the luthiery community. Let's let it die here.

Alain,
MIMF is another guitar forum (maybe the first for building instruments) and Deb is the owner/sysop. There are a lot of us who owe a great debt of gratitude for learning a whole lot from her forum, myself included.

I get all my custom work from Andy. He beats CNC work for price and quality and supports the Local economy in VietNam while he is at it.

I have always bought my pearl and ahh-baloney and ivory from Chuck Erickson AKA The Duke of Pearl.Great products, service, price, selection and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet-two problems though-no website and $1000. minimum order (at least the last time I ordered).
I think if you check his prices though, there could be significant savings to be had-maybe a group buy? He is and has been one of the biggest supplers out there.
He also holds the patent ("invented") on Abalam-(and Larry Sifel?).

alain, i find your circumlocutory slanderous comments distasteful and repugnant. trying to hide behind that same, unclever verbal circumlocution, whilst continuing to slander, when publically taken to task by others here displays what sort of character you possess, and don't.crazymanmichael38729.0994444444

Sorry to have offended you Michael. It was not my intention.   It's nice and refreshing to see that you have been able to emcompass the whole of my character in that short exchange.
I was merely expressing an opinion. I never mentioned names and I certainly wasn't trying to be clever. I don't know enough big words to be truely clever.
Slanderous comments? Maybe I should of used the word 'dictatorial' instead?
   Please accept my highest regards,
Alain Desforges,
character assassin
